A WHITCHURCH-BASED Shropshire councillor has admitted her delight at being returned to the People Overview Committee chairman role last week.

Councillor Peggy Mullock, who represents Whitchurch North as one of two unitary authority councillors, resumed her role in the committee, where she will work closely with cabinet member Ed Potter, who is the portfolio holder for Children’s Services.

And she hopes to she can continue to serve the council as effectively before, knowing the experiences she has from the role will put her in good stead for the forthcoming year.

She said: "I really wanted to be voted back as the chair the People Overview Committee and the Young People's Scrutiny Committees, so I'm pleased to have been re-elected for that.

"While I am on the committees, I work with Ed, the portfolio holder for Children's Services and I get to see first-hand some of the good work that happens around the county, and in areas of special educational needs and disabilities.

"If I see any problems with people and their issues in Shropshire, then I have the ability to call it in and add it to my agenda, and that's a privilege I will always try my best to do for the people."

Cllr Mullock also sits on the North Shropshire Planning Committee, the Performance Management Committee and also previously chaired the now defunct Whitchurch and Prees Local Joint Committee.

She has served Whitchurch north since her election June 2009, serving two four-year periods.
