THERE was a real sense of community spirit at this year’s Whixall Companion Dog Show which took place last Sunday.

Over 90 dogs were entered into 17 different classes at the show at Whixall Social Centre.

First to fifth place winners were awarded with a variety of prizes courtesy of local businesses who provided sponsorship for each class.

There were cakes baked by the Whixall Social Centre Committee, refreshments and many stalls.

Young Kennel Club Person of the Year, Paige Jepson hosted an obedience demonstration and FCI International Dog Show judge, Shaun Watson took time out of his busy schedule to judge the show.

Elaine Turnbull, show manager, said: "We are a little show that likes to think big.

"We would like to be the premier companion show in Shropshire."

Graham Turnbull, show organiser, said: "It rained for the last hour but lots of fun was had by all.

"Without the help of local business we wouldn’t have had such a successful show.

"We raised £1200 which will go towards the centre's upkeep."
