A TV vet has officially opened a new extension at Tilstock CofE Primary School.

Whitchurch vet and TV personality Steve was joined by staff, pupils and members of the community, to open the new and improved addition to the primary school and nursery on Friday.

The school, which joined the Marches Trust in December 2017, has undergone some much-needed changes in order to improve the look of the building and also to improve the learning environment for pupils.

Steve admitted he was pleased to have been asked to do the duty on opening the new school building.

"I am delighted to open this new fantastic facility at Tilstock School," he said.

"The extension gives a great first impression of the school and with the additional benefits to the pupils and staff provides a great setting to learn in."

"It is lovely to see our local village schools becoming the school of choice for parents.”

James Spicer, headteacher at Tilstock, added: “The school has continued to make positive changes since joining the Marches.

"From exploring the environment in our spacious grounds to enjoying our creative curriculum, our pupils demonstrate an excellent attitude to learning.

"The pupils enjoy a wealth of enriching extra-curricular activities from team sports to yoga and cookery.

"We also offer a bus service from surrounding areas making choosing the right school for pupils an even easier change to make."

The Marches received funding to spend on improving first impression appearance, access arrangements and the safeguarding of pupils and staff through perimeter fencing and IT infrastructure.

A new access ramp has been installed to the reception area, while perimeter fencing has been installed to improve security of the whole site.

Inside, additional improvements have been installed to enhance safeguarding and health and safety.
