The seventh annual Whitchurch Walkers Festival attracted hundreds of keen walkers into the town last weekend.

Councillor Tony Neville, mayor of Whitchurch,. launched the festival at the Archibald Worthington Club in Castle Hill, as around 200 walkers took part in a wonderful week end which offered a choice of 25 varied walks.

Some walks were themed, involving poetry, local history, bird songs, bell ringing and photography amongst other topics. The programme offered something for everybody, ranging from gentle strolls to the more demanding 18-mile Whitchurch Wheel, among others.

The entertainment included the screening of “Edie” at the Whitchurch Leisure Centre, a folk session at the Old Town Hall Vaults, a Ceilidh at the Brownlow Centre with Jigsmith.

A spokesman said: "A big thank you to all who made this week end such a success, including all our walkers and those businesses who put on special offers to make everyone feel welcome."
