A PLANT sale took place at a Whitchurch tennis centre on Saturday morning to raise funds for the club.

Hollies Tennis Club on Tarporley Road hosted the event as it looks to raise money for course developments and junior facilities.

An array of plants and refreshments were on sale, with those working on the stall offering advice to the buyers coming along.

Mary Ratcliffe, formerly of the Ratcliffe’s greengrocers in Whitchurch, was on hand to offer her expert tips and advice.

Organiser Steve Price said: “We’re having two courts resurfaced here, so we’re doing this to raise money to go towards those.

“We have a lot of junior coaching and events where they can come and play tennis for free, so it’s also money to go towards that.

“We want to give them a place where they can develop their game as youngsters.”

The event turned out to attract a good number of visitors, which has Steve hoping they can organise similar fundraisers in the future.

“We’ve had quite a few people coming in and out, so we’ve sold quite a lot of stuff.

“With an hour to go we had done really well which was nice to see.

“There was also tea and coffee on sale for people who were coming along to browse.

“We’re going to discuss with the committee the potential of some more events like this in the future.

“We think it would be very good.”
