Dog lovers have had their chance to help out a four-legged friend when a famous charity pitched up in Whitchurch this week.

Different charity staff from the Dog's Trust were positioned in 'the Bullring' near the join of Green End and the High Street, asking for people to sponsor a dog.

Denise Boyd, who worked the stall on Friday with colleague Mark Boyle, says people in Whitchurch have been very supportive in helping them provide for animals in their long-term care.

"The feedback we've had is that people have been really kind and they have helped us out," she said.

"We've been asking for people to sponsor a dog for us, which is what we've been doing since the 1990s.

"It's our main source of income for the dogs because we generate it – it's better this way as the Dog's Trust can plan for a better long-term future.

"With that, they can know what's coming and then they can plan. The fundraising is for 'sticky dogs' – dogs that hang around with us and don't always get re-homed.

"But the money we raise through sponsorship helps all our dogs, not just the 'sticky' ones. We never put down a healthy dog."
