A PERSON who had become stuck in mud on the bank of the River Dee near Handbridge in Chester was rescued by emergency services last night (Thursday, April 25).

Chester firefighters and police, along with North West Ambulance Service, were called to aid the stranded person just after 7.15pm.

Coastguard crews from Flint and Wirral, as well as the lifeboat in Flint, were alerted, but the person was recovered 'safe and well' before they were needed.

On social media, the Flint Coastguard team said: "Team tasked by UK Coastguard along with Wirral Coastguard Rescue Team to assist Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service and Cheshire Police to reports of a person stuck in mud/water near Handbridge, Chester.

"As team were departing Station a stand down message was received stating our assistance was no longer required the person had been recovered safe and well, Chester Fire, Chester Police and North West Ambulance Service were on scene."

Flint Lifeboat station said: "Request to launch from UK Coastguard after a person was reported stuck in mud on the bank of the river Dee by Handbridge, Chester. Crew were already at the station attending a shore based exercise. They quickly made ready and were leaving station to launch at Connahs Quay when the launch was cancelled by the Coastguard.

"The person had been recovered safe and well."
