Hundreds of youngsters and their families flocked to Whitchurch on Saturday to take part in a festival of rugby.

The 41st minis and juniors festival, sponsored by Agro and held at Whitchurch Rugby Club, saw more than 40 teams take part from all over the country, with playing ages ranging from six years olds upwards.

The event, held across all of the club's rugby pitches at their Edgeley Park ground, proved to be popular once more as parents took their Easter Saturday off to watch their youngsters and enjoy the sun at the same time.

Organiser Mark Hares admitted he was delighted with how the afternoon went.

"It shows how popular the event is that people always want to come," he said.

"I just want to thank everybody who gave up their time, such as Maria Lea, Same Wynn and Marcus Challinor, and all of the committee too.

"As a rugby man,it';s great to see so many young people coming and playing at out festival.

"It's important that we play these events for both the future of rugby and the future of our club. Whitchurch has been the starting point for a lot of players."
