A Whitchurch runner is putting himself to the ultimate test by completing an ultra run to raise thousands of pounds for the Bradbury Centre.

Duncan Meredith will complete the Shropshire Way Ultra 80k run on Saturday, April 27 in order to raise £1,000 for the centre's comfort fund, which helps give residents days out or bring entertainment to them.

The run is 50 miles and is to be completed within 13 hours, starting in Ellesmere and then along the canal to Llanymynech, then onwards to Chirk, uphill climb past Chirk Castle, then along the Llangollen canal back to the finish line at Ellesmere.

In his crowdfunding statement, Duncan said: "I started running about five years ago with Whitchurch Whippets and has progressed from completing 5k's and park runs to completing in various events including Chester Marathon and Shrewsbury Charles Darwin Marathon.

"Even before the ultra event [I am] going to be completing in another marathon. I run between 55-60 miles per week in training for the events."
