SIGNS commemorating the centenary of the founding of Save the Children are to be installed in Ellesmere.

The charity was founded by Ellesmere resident Eglantyne Jebb in 1919. Jebb died in 1928, but the work of the charity continues to this day.

Ellesmere Town Council discussed plans to install new signs along the main roads to Ellesmere in at their monthly meeting on Monday (April 1).

The new signs will tell visitors to town that Ellesmere is the 'home of Eglantyne Jebb, founder of Save the Children'.

Plans for the signs were only discussed in a preliminary sense, but there are hopes that they will be installed in time for for the charity's official anniversary in May.
