It was a case of 'bakers get baking' in Malpas on Saturday with the latest 'Bake off' event in the village.

The event, organised to help towards raising funds for the Village Fair in the summer, maintained its usual high standard of entry despite fewer people entering than normal.

The cakes were judged by Andrew Clay, from Chester, and organiser Beverley Dobson was delighted with those who put their baking talents forward to be judged.

"The entries were fewer this year but the standard was as great as ever," she said.

"I want to thank all the people who have got involved with it and of course our great little team who made it all happen.

"We've raised around £150 which is a great effort considering we're down on entries."

The winners were Kanya Stevens in the under-six category, and Daisy Lewis won the juniors.

In the seniors, the winner was Rowan Bateman with a double effort of Lemon Drizzle and Chocolate orange which impressed the judges and event visitors.

In the adult section, Kate Bosley took home first and second while Jane Owen came third.
