Planning issues will dominate Wem Town Council's agenda at its monthly meeting this week.

There are four planning items on the agenda at Thursday's meeting, which starts at 7pm in the Roden Suite at Edinburgh House, in New Street.

First, there is a tree conservation area item in The Old Hall, New Street, to fell three Lawson Cypress and one Silver Birch within Wem Conservation Area.

Second, there is a variation of pre-existing conditions for plans at Thomas Adams School in Lowe Hill Road, to allow for the retention of the three demountable classroom units for a further temporary period of 10 years.

In Sycamore Drive, there is a proposal for the building of extensions to form workshop, store and utility together with a new pitched roof above the existing garage following removal of an existing porch.

Finally, there are plans to build a detached bungalow with a detached double garage to the north of Crabtree Lane.

In other items on the relatively short agenda, councillors will consider a request for the assistant clerk to be authorised to work additional hours in order to undertake an inventory of of the office filing system.

Councillors will also discuss the Recreation Ground toilet block in order to discuss recent inspection of toilets and consider options for the building.

There will also be more discussion and an update of the 12 Drawwell Walk Inspection Meeting.

Councillors will also consider a response from Shropshire Council regarding a response to Wem's appeal concerning being turned down for an Environmental Maintenance Grant.

There is also correspondence to be considered on proposed changes from September 2019 to travel assistance for SEND Nursery and post-16 students, as well as an update on Wem Station ticket machine.

Monthly accounts and meeting minutes will also be approved while councillors will have the opportunity to put forward any future items for consideration.

However, they have been reminded by the clerk that that part of the agenda is not for further discussion.
