Whitchurch Town Council says it is looking forward to working with people who can bring innovation to the town as part of the growth strategy.

The council confirmed it is working with its counterparts at Shropshire but that it is also working with town centre businesses to develop a Business Improvement District (BID).

Councillor Tony Neville, town mayor, said: “This council’s economic vision is to build a digital innovation park on the Waymills employment site identified in the Local Plan.

“This vision fits in with the Shropshire Council Economic Strategy by delivering local higher paid jobs, enabling businesses to start, grow and succeed, delivering infrastructure to support growth and meeting skill needs of businesses and people’s aspirations for work.

“Whitchurch Town Council envisage that this innovation park will offer satellite work space to larger digital companies, enabling their staff to have work/life balance, therefore reducing their company’s carbon footprint.

“This site will also provide much needed office space to local digital companies and entrepreneurs, thereby enabling local businesses to grow and succeed.

“Secondly Whitchurch Town Council are working with our local town centre businesses to set up a Business Improvement District (BID). Invitations have been handed out to invite these businesses to an initial meeting on Wednesday, March 20 from 5.30pm.”

He added that Mo Aswat from the Mosaic Partnership will be attending the meeting will provide information on how a BID is run, what the aims of a Whitchurch BID could be and will answer questions from town centre businesses.

He added: “If businesses are keen to work together and set up a Whitchurch BID, the town council look forward to working in partnership with the BID and jointly promote our wonderful town.

“This council are currently also looking at new and innovative ways to promote the town as a visitor destination & are encouraging visitor accommodation businesses to our town.”
