A woman suffered serious injuries and a horse was killed after a collision in Bronington on Tuesday night.
The incident involved a BMW X3, a Daihatsu Sirion and the horse on Long Lane, the main A495 road between Whitchurch and Wrexham.
Emergency services receieved a call about the incident at about 7.30pm.
Sgt Leigh Evans of the Roads Policing Unit said: "The collision resulted in the female passenger of the X3 being taken to hospital in Stoke with injuries which are described as critical.
"Sadly the horse died at the scene.”
Police are conducting several enquiries to establish the full circumstances of the incident.
Sgt Evans added: "We are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed the collision or who may have been travelling along the route and who saw the horses in the road prior to the incident, to come forward.”
"We would also like to speak to anybody who may have dash cam footage from their vehicles prior to the collision."
