Councillors in Whitchurch will be urged to vote for equality and diversity training, in a motion put forward by one of its members.

Councillor Andy Hall has tabled 'Motion 12', as listed on the record of motions requiring written notice, calling for Whitchurch Town Council to 'consider equality and diversity training for all councillors'.

In his motion, Cllr Hall states this is to include equality and diversity as outlined in the Equalities Act 2010 and its nine characteristics, the PREVENT agenda, British values, bias and discrimination and upholding the Nolan Principles.

The Nolan Principles are seven principles which uphold public life and are selflessness, integrity, objectivity, accountability, openness, honesty and leadership.

The item is last on the agenda for the meeting in the Edward German Room at the town's Civic Centre, starting at 7.15pm.

Other items on the agenda for Thursday's meeting include notifications from two councillors on their intention to resign from committees; Cllr Mike Barker has resigned from all committees while Cllr Norma Raynes has resigned from the events committee.

A new councillor will be co-opted onto the full council as the meeting will hear from presentations from two candidates, Rose Snell – a former Citizen of the Year – and Alan Brooks.

Either will be voted onto the town council at the meeting.

The meeting will start with a period of public participation, lasting around 15 minutes.

Other items on the agenda include a presentation from Steve Chapman and Clare Bellingham, who are part of the organising committee for the town's Blackberry Fair, and they will be discussing proposals on how to take the event forward.

The town council will also review the Planning Committee's terms of reference, specifically seeking clarity on the process required to send comments to Shropshire Council.

There will be reports from members who sit on non-council bodies, while Shropshire councillor Gerald Dakin will update the council one vents in Shirehall.

The council will also receive a recommendation from Finance Committee that full council agrees to the Charitable Trust Deeds for the Whitchurch Greaves Trust and the Whitchurch Berrington Trust.

Cllr Raynes will also feedback from the Women in Local Government Conference which she attended on behalf of the council.
