AN ELLESMERE secondary school has unveiled its new all-weather pitch facility.

As part of a successful funding bid in June 2018, Lakelands Academy started work to construct a full-size all-weather spots pitch on the school field.

The pitch is complemented by a new sandpit area and surrounding running track so the sporting opportunities for the new facilities are wide and varied.

Headteacher Sophy Bellis, after her first stroll around the newly-opened pitch, said: “It’s brilliant and it was fabulous to see our students all over it and loving it – buzzing with excitement and pride.

“Feedback from the first groups to have used the new pitch has been incredibly positive.

“The lights are a work of genius; I believe there are only three such sets in the whole UK.

“It’s been a long time in the making, but now it’s here and a real cause for celebration.

“A huge thanks to Lakelands business manager Mrs Davies for masterminding the bid, and to head of science and PE, Mr Smallbone and the PE team, all of whom have supported the venture.” n Bookings for Lakelands’ new sporting venue are now being taken through the academy’s reception, on 01691 622 543 or by sending an email to admin@lakelandsacademy.org.uk
