Sainsbury’s Whitchurch store has been recognised for its work with people who live with Dementia.
The store, in London Road, has been awarded the status of 'Working to become Dementia Friendly' which they say is the first supermarket in town to be involved.
The store has been working closely with Dementia Friendly Whitchurch to make improvements in store to help customers receive an inclusive shopping experience.
Ann Poole, Sainsbury's PR Ambassador, recently became a 'Dementia Friends Champion' so that she can deliver Dementia Friend sessions to staff to help raise awareness of how even a little change can make a big difference.
Ann said: "Look out for colleagues who are wearing their Dementia Friend forget me not badges.
“I am so incredibly proud to be part of Sainsbury’s and to help bring the community together with the store."
There is a quiet hour every Tuesday in store from 9am to 10am. This means that there is no tannoy, minimal stock movement and a generally more relaxed atmosphere.
Ann added she is also in discussion with the Shropshire Disability Network for the store to join the Safe Place Initiative.
