Sir John Talbot’s School in Whitchurch is celebrating after recently-released Progress 8 and Attainment 8 scores show it is one of the best schools in Shropshire.

The school, part of the Marches Academy Trust, was placed in special measures around five years ago but through the guidance of David O’Toole, the school is now reaping the rewards, shown by the fantastic position on the league table.

Progress 8 measures how much progress students have made between the end of Key Stage 2 and the end of Key Stage 4, compared to students with a similar set of results at the end of Key Stage 2. With a Progress 8 score of 0.4, Sir John Talbot’s is part of only 17 per cent of schools in England 'above average'.

Mr O’Toole said: “I am delighted with the position of Sir John Talbot’s School and it shows the hard work and dedication from all of the staff, parents and students is paying off.

"The school really is now becoming the school of choice locally in north Shropshire. The league tables are just one part of the school’s achievement and the excellent facilities, enrichment opportunities and extra-curricular offerings ensure that students are at the centre of everything we do in this one learning community across the Marches Academy Trust.”
