SHROPSHIRE residents could be charged for green waste collection if budget proposals go ahead.
But a Shropshire Council spokesman stressed that while a charge is being considered, there are "no firm plans for implementation".
A proposal to charge for green waste collections is included in the 2019/20 budget consultation, which runs until February 18.
Councillors will discuss the proposals at a full council meeting on February 28, before the final budget is agreed.
The spokesman added: "If the proposals for garden waste are progressed, a separate and detailed public consultation will take place, to let you know what is proposed and why, and to give you chance to have your say.
"Following such a public consultation, the proposals would then have to go to the council’s Cabinet for consideration and a final decision.
The spokesman said that the council had received calls from members of the public about the issue and added: "We hope this helps to clarify the current situation. If and when there are any developments we will, of course, provide further updates."
