Members of a monitoring group who aim to disrupt a Cheshire hunt have accused it of leaving a severed fox's tail on a car windscreen in Malpas.

The Cheshire Monitors follow the Wynnstay Hunt to stop them illegally killing foxes after hunting them.

A spokeswoman for Cheshire Monitors said the incident comes after they managed to disrupt a morning hunt this week at Cheshire's Cholmondeley Castle, leading to the grisly discovery on Tuesday evening.

"We were monitoring the hunt on Tuesday and we're stopping them from killing foxes by filming them," she said.

"We were joined by our Wildlife Crime Officer for the morning but in the afternoon, after they had gone, it was absolute pandemonium.

"We went to the Old Fire Station cafe in Malpas. In the past, someone [from the hunt] usually checks that we're there.

"We saw one of them on a quad bike. We're not saying he was the one [who put the tail on the screen] but he made sure he waved at us as he went past.

"Then we went back to our cars and we found the tail with blood strewn on the windscreen.

"The police were informed and they checked the CCTV but it seems we didn't park in the right place. We can't move forward with it because there's no CCTV.

"This has made us more determined to stop this barbarity."

However, Jonathon Turner, chairman of the Wynnstay Hunt, firmly denied the group had anything to do with the incident.

He said: "I have no idea how or who put the brush on the car windscreen but it certainly was nothing to do with anyone associated with the Hunt."

Cheshire Police have confirmed they are aware of the incident and are looking into it.
