A CANADIAN folk rock trio who are set to appear at Wem Town Hall next week say they are looking forward to making their debut in the town.

The East Pointers, who are from Canada’s east coast, are on another UK tour, which takes them to London and across the north, and this time, they will be stopping off in north Shropshire on January 27.

Lead singer and fiddle player Tim Chaisson, alongside fellow members banjoist Koady Chaisson and guitarist Jake Charron, say the band enjoy playing the UK.

And for anyone wondering what the East Pointers have to offer for a sleepy Sunday night at the Town Hall, Tim promises they will be up on their feet in no time.

“We are really looking forward to playing Wem,” he said.

“We’ve never been before but have heard about how great a venue the Town Hall is.

“We’ve toured in the UK a few times but it still feels like a fresh new place to tour for us.

“People can certainly expect a few tunes to dance to and a few songs to reflect on. We’re looking forward to meeting the lovely folks in Wem.”

The band will be touring their second album – What We Leave Behind – which is the follow up to 2015’s award-winning Secret Victory, which both reflect on the traditions of Canadian Celtic music.

The band come from Prince Edward Island in Canada and their music – especially Two Weeks – reflects their tough upbringing, leading to the need to leave home to find work and money.

“When I played that song for my mom, she said ‘That’s going to hit home for a lot of people,” Koady Chaisson added. “Many families are forced to split their time, with at least one member having to go out west – usually to Alberta – to make ends meet.

“It’s so hard. I did it, though luckily not for long, but there are people in my community going through it month after month, year after year.”

Charron added: “Traditional music has always been at the core of what we do as a band. There’s something powerful about a style of music that has been passed on for generations.”
