A ROAD safety campaigning MP has spoken of her concern after five people were injured in a collision on a road in her constituency.

An investigation is now under way after five young people suffered serious injuries in a collision in Overton on Tuesday night.

Emergency services were called to the A528 Salop Road, to a crash involving a blue Skoda Fabia shortly after 10.30pm.

All five occupants of the car - two females and three males aged in the late teens / early 20s - were taken to hospital with serious injuries.

The incident happened in the constituency of Clwyd South MP Susan Elan Jones, who is a long-time road safety campaigner, having been given a national road safety award by the charity Brake and Direct Line Group for her work.

She said: "Incidents like this are always a great concern. It will be of general concern to the Overton community too.

"We must do everything we that can possibly be done, and every practical arrangement must be made on that road and others to ensure more safety."

Ms Jones added that she would keep campaigning for increased safety measures on our roads.

Three were initially taken to the Wrexham Maelor Hospital and two were taken to the Countess of Hospital in Chester.

One female has since been transferred to hospital in Stoke with serious life changing injuries and one male has been transferred to Walton Hospital with serious injuries.

Nearby resident Jude Moulsdale, who called for help and comforted the stricken youngsters with her husband Les, said: "It was just horrific to see."

Sergeant Stephen Richards of the Roads Policing Unit appealed for anyone with any dash cam footage or who witnessed the incident, to help with an investigation into the incident.

He said: "I am appealing to anybody who may have witnessed the collision, or anybody who may have been travelling along Salop Road around the time of the collision and who may have dash cam footage to contact us."
