Market traders in Whitchurch came together to raise hundreds of pounds for a local charity.

The Friends of Whitchurch Community Hospital, based in Claypit Street, was presented with the cheque before Christmas by two traders from the indoor market in the Civic Centre.

Rosemary Powell, from the Friends, was delighted to receive the donation, which came from traders enjoying dressing up in their favourite festive jumpers.

“The Friends of Whitchurch Community Hospital were very grateful to receive a very generous donation,” she said.

“The money was organised by Isabel Williams from Isabel Flowers and Chris Docking from Candy Crafts as a result of a Christmas jumper day. And also to thank everyone else who donated. This will be put to good use towards our next round of requests from the hospital.”

The Friends of Whitchurch Hospital works to raise funds to help with the day-to-day running of looking after patients who are in longer-term care.

It helps to raise money for special events and requests.
