Whitchurch celebrity AJ Pritchard and his brother Curtis are recovering after he was beaten up by a gang in Cheshire.

The pair, whose parents run Pritchards Dance Academy in Burleydam, were on a night out in Nantwich on Thursday night when they were set on by thugs in an unprovoked attack.

AJ is understood to have suffered bruising to his face, arms, body and legs, while Curtis will undergo surgery in the next few days after receiving injuries to his knee.

He is also recovering from injuries to his eye and face.

It has been reported that the injuries sustained by Curtis will mean that he is unable to take part in the launch of the new series of Ireland's version of ‘Dancing with the Stars’ which begins on January 6.

A statement from the pair and published by the BBC said they have spoken to Cheshire Police who are currently investigating.

Meanwhile, messages of support have flooded in on social media, particularly from members of the Strictly Come Dancing family, where AJ made his name.

Professional dancer Katya Jones said: "I can't believe what happened to [AJ and Curtis]. Sending lots of love your way.

"It's Christmas people! Where is humanity going?"

While fellow dancer Giovanni Pernice commented: "What is wrong with this people? Guys I’m so sorry. I’m with you all the way! Disgusting!"

Zoe Ball, who was a contestant on the third series of the show and presents sister show It Takes Two, added: "Sending all the love to [AJ] and his brother [Curtis] wishing him a speedy recovery.

"Horrified to hear about the brutal attack upon them and their friends. Heartbreaking."

And former Strictly judge Arlene Phillips said: "Totally wrong on every level to attack such kind gentle boys. So sorry that [Curtis] will be unable to start work on @DWTSIRL and wishing him and [AJ] speedy recovery.
