Electricity distributor SP Energy Networks is offering additional support to vulnerable north Shropshire customers during the winter months through its Priority Services Register.

The register ensures that vulnerable customers are given a helping hand should a power cut hit their community.

In the event of a power outage, SP Energy Networks will try its best to inform those on the register of any disruption to the network as its teams work around the clock to restore electricity.

Megan Cunningham, a spokeswoman for SP Energy, said: "Although power cuts are rare, the network can be vulnerable to extreme weather.

"SP Energy Networks engineers have been working hard throughout the year to strengthen the network and minimise the risk of power outages for its customers in north Shropshire."

The register is open to disabled people, over 60s and those suffering from a chronic medical condition as well as those who need support for a short period of time such as families living with a new-born baby or people recently discharged from hospital.

SP Energy Networks also provides a range of additional support services to customers giving them a helping hand in other aspects of their lives – such as assistance with weekly shopping, help with home-cooked meals, debt advice and special help for customers with dementia.

These services are free of charge and delivered through SP Energy Networks’ database of trusted local partners.

Customers simply need to get in touch with SP Energy Networks to join.
