When Mary Morstan arrives at 221B Baker Street to request help with the mystery of her missing father, Holmes takes the case and together with his companion Dr Watson enters a murky world of deception and trickery, unravelling a complex plot involving murder, corruption and stolen jewels.

HAL CRUTTENDEN: CHUBSTER

Hal’s literally filled our screens recently on Have I Got News For You, The Apprentice: You’re Fired, Bake Off: Extra Slice, and Live at the Apollo.

He was nominated for the Best Newcomer Award at the 2002 Edinburgh Comedy Festival and is a regular on the comedy beat in the UK.

His daughters chose the title of his new stand-up show. He’s now on a diet.

MET OPERA – ADRIANA LECOUVREUR

(Theatr Clywd, Mold, Jan 12)

Soprano Anna Netrebko joins the ranks of Renata Tebaldi, Montserrat Caballé, and Renata Scotto, taking on—for the first time at the Met—the title role of the real-life French actress who dazzled 18th-century audiences with her on-and offstage passion.

The soprano is joined by tenor Piotr Beczała as Adriana’s lover, Maurizio. The principal cast also features mezzo-soprano Anita Rachvelishvili and baritone Ambrogio Maestri. Gianandrea Noseda conducts.

Sir David McVicar’s staging, which sets the action in a working replica of a Baroque theatre.
