After months of fundraising efforts, enough money has be raised to get a specially adapted wheelchair for four-year-old Harrison Thompson.

Davena Struggles, Harrisons’ grandmother, who lives in Ellesmere, has spend months planning fundraising events to get a SnapDragon powerchair for the youngster.

Harrison, who lives in Skegness with his parents Jodie and Lee, was born perfectly healthy in 2014.

But his parents soon noticed that he wasn’t reaching his milestones as a baby, and he was diagnosed with Type One Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA), which causes weakness and difficulty moving.

Davena told the Advertizer earlier this year that they had hoped to raise the money to “buy the wheelchair so Harrison’s wonderful personality is not curbed”.

Harrison’s grandad, Gary, along with uncle Ryan Struggles and Vicky Poole completed a parachute jump earlier this year and raised £4,500 for The Turbo Trust. Davena has also held teddy tombolas, taken part in Christmas fairs and hosted Harrison’s Super Duper Bingo this month, which raised £500.

“We’re really excited for Harrison’s chair to be made,” said Davena.

“Now he’s at pre-school it’ll really make a difference.

“We’re just so grateful that everyone could help us raise money towards the chair.”
