A ROYAL British Legion group had a pleasant surprise at a coffee morning.

Sisters Beatrix and Darcy Hyde-Foller visited the Wem branch to show their fundraising creations for the Poppy Appeal to members at the event.

Branch member Philip Moyse said: "Gemma Hyde – Foller contacted us via our Facebook page with a rather lovely story about her young daughters Beatrix, aged two, and Darcy, 16 months, her niece Lily and nephew Oscar who had worked hard by decorating poppies that she had cut out by card.

"They gave their creations to friends and families and in return asked for a small donation which amounted to £17.50."

Gemma and Beatrix were welcomed to the coffee morning by chairman Christine Saxton and the president, Ted Davies.

Beatrix handed over the cheque to the Mr Davies, which will go to the Poppy Appeal. Mrs Saxton had certificates made for each of the children.
