Wem Town Council will ask schools, youth clubs and other community groups for young people to nominate a outstanding person for an award.

The High Sheriff of Shropshire's Outstanding Young Citizenship Award 2019, now in its 14th year, is looking for someone who goes the extra mile as a young citizen by doing what they can for their community, charity, family and friends.

The council, at its latest meeting, discussed the award but councillors felt it was better if the schools or community groups such as the Scouts nominated their own for the award.

Nominations can be submitted online from Monday, December 3 and will close on January 25 ahead of the awards on February 28.

In other items in last week's full meeting, there will be a drop-in session in January for the Local Plan Review Consultation, likely on January 13 to be confirmed in December.

This session will be ahead of the council's own planning committee meeting a week later.

Members also noted receiving correspondence from a Wem resident calling for the town to hold a 'redhead day'.
