CALAN

Celebrate the Yuletide season with bagpipes, fiddles and step dancing when internationally renowned Calan are guests of North Shropshire Folk at the Talbot Theatre, Whitchurch Leisure Centre, on Saturday, December 8.
The Welsh Celtic quintet make a welcome return at 8pm with their fantastic show of seasonal favourites and their usual energetic jovial tunes, haunting songs and step-dancing.
The show includes traditional Plygain singing – a form of singing popular at Christmas in the chapels of Wales.
With their unique instrumental blend fiddles, whistles, guitar and bagpipes and a traditional reed instrument from Wales called a pibgorn made from a wooden pipe and the horns of a bull.
Great fun, a sense of humour and step dancing from a champion dancer who dances in a style unique to Wales.
Calan, who have busked in Cardiff, have introduced a new generation of music fans to Welsh traditional music – in Wales and beyond, singing in both English and Welsh.
