A HOMELESS woman who stole from Asda in Wrexham in September told a court that she did it because she was desperate.

Samantha Jayne Adams, 37, said that she lived in a cardboard box but all her property “had been robbed”.

At North East Wales Magistrates’ Court at Mold, Adams, said to be a long term Mamba user, was given a chance to get her life back on track.

District Judge John Maxwell deferred sentence for six months.

Adams, who has an accommodation address at Huntroyde Avenue in Wrexham, is currently staying at The Hafan Wen drugs detoxification centre.

Once her mental health was stabilised it was intended that she would be moved to a rehabilitation unit away from the area for up to 16 weeks.

The judge told Adams that he was worried about her.

She would return to court in May to be sentenced and in that time he hoped she would undertake detoxification and stay out of trouble.

“I hope when you come back that you will be a different lady,” he said.

If she was successful then at the end of the day he said she could expect a conditional discharge although he could not tie the hands of a future court.

Euros Jones, defending, said that staff from Hafan Wen had accompanied his client to court and she would return to the centre once the hearing was over.

Adams pleaded guilty to stealing items to the value of £59.40 from the Asda Superstore at Bodhyfryd in Wrexham, on September 15.
