A small village in Shropshire held its 11th annual show and raised money for the League of Friends at the Orthopaedic Hospital and Hope House.

Weston-Under-Redcastle village show took place last summer, attracting more than 500 people to the event.

Organisers have hailed the annual show a tremendous success, with £10,000 of profit generated.

Held in aid Hope House Children’s Hospice and The League of Friends to The Robert Jones and Agnes Hunt Orthopaedic Hospital for the Horatio’s Garden Appeal, the committee have given a generous donation to both local charities.

Visitors were treated to a number of activities during the day including a fun dog show, a pony club display, a falconry display, children’s races, shire horses, a climbing wall, a vintage car pageant, a jazz band and a live bee observation hive and display.

There was also a catering marquee with refreshments, a barbecue and Pimms.

The League of Friends charity director, Victoria Sugden said: “This is not the first time we have been lucky enough to benefit from the fantastic fundraising effort of the Weston-Under-Redcastle Village Show Committee.

“They have worked so hard not only to create a wonderful family event but to support local charities in this way is admirable.

“The funds donated will go towards the new Horatio’s Garden to be built at the hospital for the benefit of patients with spinal injuries”.

Daphne Evans, committee member, said: “Having volunteered at The Robert Jones and Agnes Hunt Orthopaedic Hospital for many years I am acutely aware of the important work it does, and with a passion for plants, Horatio’s Garden felt like the perfect cause to donate to.

“I was delighted to have the backing of committee on this.”
