Children at Welshampton Primary School had a special visitor this afternoon, as Pudsey Bear joined to cheer on the Children in Need Rickshaw Challenge.

Team Rickshaw, fronted by BBC One Show presenter Matt Baker, cycled from Wem through to Welshampton and on to Ellesmere in order to raise money for the charity.

The team started in Calais, and have travelled up the country where they will finish in Salford tomorrow night.

Claire Liley, class teacher at Welshampton C of E Primary School, said the children had been very excited for Team Rickshaw's appearance.

"We've done something every year for Children in Need, it's become a bit of a ritual really," she said.

"We are really luckily that the children get to see the rickshaw today, we've been tracking it in class – and clearly not much work has happened this morning!"

The 79 pupils at the school, aged from reception to Year 6, all made special Pudsey Bear bandanas to wear for his arrival, as well as making banners, decorating the school with spots that contained personalised messages from the pupils, and having plenty of spare change at the ready to donate.

Mrs Liley continued: "Emily Mainwaring, head of Brimstone Class, has organised the day. It's been great for the children and really exciting for the whole school in general."

Of course, Pudsey couldn't leave without a quick performance of dance craze the 'Floss' with pupils from Welshampton.

Team Rickshaw then headed to Ellesmere, where they were met by crowds that lined the street along the Mere, before heading through town and towards Wrexham.
