Crowds gathered in Whitchurch, Malpas and Ellesmere to pay their respects on Remembrance Day.

Services took place at St Alkmund's Church in Whitchurch, a parade marched through Malpas and wreaths were laid in Ellesmere to commemorate the end of the First World War.

The parade through Whitchurch saw mayor Councillor Tony Neville lead the way for fellow town councillors, followed by members of the Royal British Legion, army cadets and Whitchurch Firefighters.

Members of the Brownies, Rainbows, Cubs and Scouts gathered at the War Memorial in Station Road to lay wreaths, while Rev Canon Judy Hunt lead the service at the memorial, followed by the Last Post performed by Simon Griffiths.

Elsewhere in Ellesmere hundreds of people gathered as a parade marched to Ellesmere Parish Church.

Among those represented were Shropshire and Ellesmere Town councils, the armed forces, Royal British Legion, Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service, along with the Rotary and Probus clubs.

Councillors Ryan Hartley and Judith Williams, mayor and deputy mayor of Ellesmere, read the roll call of those who sacrificed their lives in both World Wars.

Proceedings at the church were led by the Reverend Philip Edge before Tommy Jobson, of Ellesmere Sinfonia, played The Last Post and then The Reveille.

Commemorations also took place in Malpas where Malpas Ladies Choir dressed as suffragettes for the parade and the Flower Club dressed as First World War nurses. The Lord Lord Lieutanant of Cheshire David Briggs saw over the parade and the light infantry also took part in the parade.
