THE people of Ellesmere have once again gathered to honour the fallen.

Hundreds of people gathered on Armistice Day as a parade marched to Ellesmere Parish Church.

Members of several organisations laid wreaths at the war memorial to remember those who died during both world wars and other conflicts.

Among those represented were Shropshire and Ellesmere Town councils, the armed forces, Royal British Legion, Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service, along with the Rotary and Probus clubs.

Also paying their respects were Brownlow Lodge Freemasons, the Ladies Circle, Comrades Club, 41 Club and Widows Club.

Councillors Ryan Hartley and Judith Williams, mayor and deputy mayor of Ellesmere, read the roll call of those who sacrificed their lives in both World Wars.

Proceedings at the church were led by the Reverend Philip Edge.

Standard bearers lowered then raised their flags as Tommy Jobson, of Ellesmere Sinfonia, played The Last Post and then The Reveille.

A service was held before the parade marched to the Ellesmere Town Hall.

Piper Ollie Jones had started the Armistice Day commemorations by playing The Battle is Over at the memorial at 6am.
