Malpas Parish Council has insisted it will ensure a covered bus shelter will be provided in Old Hall Street for residents after the previous one was destroyed.

The announcement came at the October Malpas Parish Council meeting after mystery surrounded how the previous shelter was damaged beyond repair to then be demolished, without consultation with the parish council.

A spokesman said: "While our insurance company is addressing this matter, the parish council has confirmed its intention to provide a covered shelter to replace the one that has been destroyed.

"This replacement is likely to take some time and is unlikely to be in place for some months."

Councillors then went on to hear that other shelters in the village are in need of improvement, describing the current shelter in Chester Road as being in a 'poor state of repair'.

They were told that the work required is approved and will take place as soon as possible and the council will also liaise with Bovis Homes, developers for the new Chester Road housing, and other parties to have the additional proposed shelters built as soon as possible.

In other items, the councillor expressed delight and congratulations to Malpas Cricket Club on finishing top of their division this summer.

The club won the league through an appeal over a result between two teams from the same side.

The Christmas Fair was confirmed for Saturday, November 24 while the High Street will be decked in festive lights and Christmas trees.

Councillors were told that there had been criminal and suspicious activity in and around Malpas.

In recent weeks there have been reports of thefts, attempted burglaries in and around Malpas, with numerous reports of suspicious individuals in the area.

The police are aware of these matters, however to date there has been no feedback about actions and investigations they have undertaken.

A spokesman said: " Please always ring 101 and report it to the police.
