Volunteers from Whitchurch's Heritage Centre are distributing posters to chosen houses in the town prior to Armistice Day on November 11 as a way of remembering the men who fell in the First World War.

The posters will form part of the St Mary's Street-based centre's commemorations of the 100-year anniversary of the Armistice.

Museum curator Judith Hoyle said: " This is because we are remembering every man who lost their life and is commemorated on the town’s War Memorial in Station Road.

"We wish to place a notice at the house each of these men lived in prior to leaving for the 'Theatre of War', with more than 200. We are asking residents to join in the Whitchurch Armistice 100 commemoration by placing the poster in the front window of their home."

A map showing the addresses, together with other information for the Armistice is being exhibited in the Civic Centre on November 11 between 12.30-2.30pm as part of the commemorations before being a museum display.
