A WHIXALL school parent is urging people to sponsor him ahead of a beach race so he can raise money to buy educational supplies.

Daniel Ratcliffe, who is from Whitchurch, will be racing quad bikes at the Weston-Super-Mare Beach race in Somerset at the weekend as part of a new fundraising drive for others.

He says he first started raising money for a fellow competitor two years ago, but this year he wants to give his children – and others at Whixall Primary School – better opportunities and equipment.

And he has reached nearly three quarters of his £1,000 target but is hoping for the help of one last push from parents and friends.

"Every year for the last 10 years I have been competing in an event called Weston-Super-Mare Beach Race," he said.

"For the last two years, instead of personal gain, I have decided to raise money for different causes i.e. a fellow competitor who seriously injured herself and Whitchurch Parkinsons Society.

"This year, for the school my children go to, I have decided to raise money for better educational equipment to be used in any department they require. The event of Weston-Super-Mare Beach Race is run over two days.

"The day I compete is on Saturday, October 20 (this weekend) and consists of 400 plus riders all together in one race more than three hours non-stop over a three-mile man-made track on the beach with dunes as high as a house.

"This race is close to my heart as I have loved quad bike racing for many years. Wish me luck and lets raise some money."

Danny added: "Thanks to everyone so far in supporting me in this wonderful event for such a good cause for the school.

"If you wanted to give a donation other than the Just Giving page, [you can give] to Mrs Higgs at Whixall school in an envelope and we will forward it on to the page ourselves with your name, how much you sponsor without you having to do it online.

"Thanks once again for the support ."
