There is plenty going on in Ellesmere to help mark the anniversary of the end of the First World War this month.

Members of Ellesmere Swan Mere Day Centre have been busy making poppies from the bottom of plastic bottles.

They are making 100 poppies in total, then mounting them on a frame to form a cascade to hang on the town hall wall outside their window.

Giant flowers will be displayed during November in a Flowers of Peace and Remembrance Garden outside Our Space in Trimpley Street.

People can attend a flower workshop is being held on Saturday, October 13 taking place from 11am to 3pm.

People and businesses are also encouraged to adopt a Flower of Peace and Remembrance. Each flower costs £3 to stage so any donation is welcome.

Contact Our Space for more information on 01691 622584 or 01743 258555 (day services and library).

And then on October 24, Dave Andrews will be speaking about his book Wilfred Owen: Poet of Oswestry at an event organised by the Friends of Ellesmere Library at The Vault.

Tickets cost £10 to include a hot supper and welcome drink and are available from Ellesmere Library and Ismay’s Fashions.

Other events have included a Silent Soldier installed at the town hall and a First World War evening of poetry and music was held at the Boathouse in April.
