Wem Town Hall is holding a dementia friendly showing of the Fred Astaire classic The Band Wagon on Monday, September 10.
The musical-comedy, directed by Vincente Minelli, has Astaire as an ageing musical star Tony Hunter, who hopes a Broadway show will restart his career. However, the play’s director wants to make it a pretentious retelling of the Faust legend and brings in a prima ballerina who clashes with the star.
Along with Singin’ in the Rain (1952), it is regarded as one of the finest of the Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer musicals, although it was only a modest box-office success on first release.
Cyd Charisse joins Astaire in the showing and the dementia friendly screenings are to help those with memory problems, and there will also be an interval.
Tickets cost £5 and the showing starts at 1.30pm. For more, head to www.wemtownhall.co.uk/whatson or call 01939 238 279 to book your tickets.
