Sir John Talbot’s School in Whitchurch is yet again celebrating outstanding A-level results with a 100 per cent pass rate across 17 subjects, and more students than ever going on to university courses.

Students have gained access to their first choice courses at top universities including Bristol, Liverpool and Portsmouth, following a wide range of degree programmes, including medicine, bio-medicine, architecture and engineering.

The majority of students will take up university places in September, with all students securing a quality pathway including the armed forces, nursing and policing.

Michelle Jones, head of Sixth Form, said: “We are delighted for our students for gaining these amazing results here at Sir John Talbot’s. We would like to wish them the very best of success on the next stage of their journey.”

David O’Toole, headteacher at the school, added: “We would like to pass on our congratulations to our A-level students for their fantastic results. Their hard work and determination has reaped wonderful rewards.”

Among the higher performing students was Ashley Heath, who smashed her target of 112 UCAS points, reaching 184 with a double distinction star in PE and a C in geography.

She said: This is a bit of a cherry on top for me as I knew I was going to Leeds University.

“I wasn’t expecting it really so it’s a nice surprise. We’re going out to celebrate.”

Tomas Bebbington was happy with his results of a B in history, but may be taking a different path to others as he waits confirmation to join Sandhurst.

He said: “I’m hoping to go in for officer training at Sandhurst but I’ve also been accepted by all of my universities.

“It was nice to see the results – I’m really happy.”

They were joined by Year 12 students Ben Fry and Vicky Hopwood, who were picking up AS-level results.

Both will be going into Year 13, with Ben looking to do Maths and Further Maths while Vicky will look to do sciences.

She said: “I hope to be here again in 12 months time being equally happy.”

n Students and staff at the Sixth Form at Penley's Maelor School were celebrating as the school exceeded its previously excellent results this year at A-level.

All students achieved at least two A-levels or equivalent and four fifths achieved these at A*-C. The school also had more A* and A grades than ever before.

Headteacher Simon Ellis said: “I am overwhelmed with these outstanding results. Students and their families are to be congratulated for all their hard work and perseverance." to achieve." these superb grades.”

Director of Sixth Form Penny Ellwood added: “This year group have been a pleasure to teach, they have remained focused and dedicated.
