A YOUNGSTER impressed show judges with her animal handling skills.
Isobel Smith, 15, of Wem, took first place in the Young Handler category at the Oswestry Show.
Of her victory, Isobel said: “I feel good, I’m pleased about it.”
The Thomas Adams School pupil took the victory with her 10-month-old Red Holstein against handlers aged 11-16.
It was the first appearance at the Oswestry Show for Isobel, who has been showing cattle since she was 10 at shows in places including Newport and Nantwich.
The process of preparing the calves starts at eight weeks old. Isobel told about the requirements that judges look for in handling competitions.
“[They look for] style, like your presentation as to how clean you are, that’s why you wear whites; how well you handle your calf and do certain points that they’re looking for really.
Isobel said that the atmosphere among the competitors was good.
“It’s not too tense, it’s all good fun. There’s not too much pressure on it.”
