A year 9 pupil, Betsy Holmes, has scored a genius result on an IQ test at Sir John Talbot’s School, Whitchurch.
14-year-old Betsy scored a stunning mark of 162, which is the maximum amount that could be scored on the paper and is also a score that is thought to be higher than both Sir Stephen Hawking and Albert Einstein, who are estimated to have IQs of around 160.
As a pilot project, Sir John Talbot’s were offered the chance to host an IQ test for pupils in Key Stage 4 and 5. A total of eighteen pupils took up the challenge and one parent joined them as they volunteered to sit the Mensa test.
The ‘genius’ benchmark is set at 140 and Betsy was joined by fellow pupil Bethany Atteck, and a parent, Anne Poole, in the genius category.
As a result of being graded in the genius category, Betsy, Bethany and Anne, have all been invited to join the oldest high-IQ society in the world, Mensa.
