Whitchurch Rotary Club made history this week when it created a new club at Borderbrook School in Tallarn Green.

Called 'Rotakids', it is a branch of the Worldwide Rotary Movement developed specifically for children of primary school age to involve them in a range of fun activities and fundraising opportunities. The children will elect their own President, and their own secretary and treasurer, and they will decide what they want to get involved in.

Headteacher Fay Green was presented with the Rotakids Charter by Rotary president Walter Schafer who explained that one aim was to promote peace and harmony around the world. Rotarian Mike Valentine went on to explain the movement's motto of "Service Above Self". Mrs Green added the school was proud to receive their charter.

One of the children's first activities in Rotary will be to participate in the Club's charity boat trips on the Llangollen Canal in the new school year in September.
