The MAYOR of Wem, Councillor Edward Towers, was joined by friends, councillors and dignitaries from across the area at the annual Spring Ball last week.

The event, held at Wem Town Hall, saw hundreds of people – including neighbouring mayor from Whitchurch Cllr Tony Neville – don their finest and head to Wem to join in the celebrations.

Cllr Towers was delighted with how the night went, managing to maintain the finest traditions of using the Spring Ball to raise thousands of pounds for the council's, and the Mayor's charity partners.

He said: "We're still settling everything up, but with the auction results and donations I have been handed, the amount will be more than £2,000 which is an amazing amount and shows the generosity of support that has been given by the people of Wem to this year’s Mayor’s Charity Appeal.

"This year, the money will go to the Wem Swimming and Lifestyle Centre Extension Appeal for gym and viewing/refreshment area for parents and guardians wanting to watch their children learning to swim."

The promise auction included gifts from Whitchurch's Alderford Lake, Wem Town Hall, Shrewsbury Town Football Club, Shropshire Sailing Club, Skydive Tilstock Freefall Club and the Shropshiore Aero Club.
