A resident from Ellesmere and her dog are organising a fun walk to get dog-lovers together in surrounding areas.

Joanne Platt and her one-year-old cross breed, Mr Darcy, are hoping to welcome as many dogs and owners in the area as they can on April 29 at for as positive walk around the mere in Ellesmere.

Joanne said: "It's going to be so much fun for dogs and owners to meet. Hopefully I'll get a positive response. I've already had a good response from the local Tesco, and the offer of support for the event (dogs' poo bags and treats etc).

"We are going to meet up by the mere, opposite the children's playground. As that's a secure patch of grass, but it would be ideal if all dogs were on the lead to avoid any chaos. I'm planning a walk around the mere, and a longer route for bigger dogs."

Joanne said she thought of the idea after posting a positive message on the local social media page asking people what they love about living in the area.

"I noticed how many people commented on walks and shared pictures of their dogs and I just thought it would be fun to get together and give a positive event for dogs.

"I also think it's really important to promote poop scooping responsibility for your dog. I'm in contact with related local businesses to see if they would like to get involved and I am finding pet friendly places to eat and drink locally which I will list on the event page so hopefully the walk could benefit more then just the dogs!"

All dogs and owners are welcome. The walk will start at 1:30pm next to the children's playground by the mere.
