The Met Office has issued red weather warnings for much of the UK and Whitchurch and surrounding areas an amber warning has been given as the 'Beast from the East' continues to strike.

The weather system has brought dangerous cold temperatures and snow but it doesn't stop there as Storm Emma will bring blizzard conditions this evening through until Friday night.

Temperatures in Whitchurch will reach minus three tonight and you can expect to see these icy temperatures and conditions up until Saturday. Three to six inches of snow is expected from now until tomorrow night.

There will be delays to traffic and public transport, and public are advised to check online before travelling.

Bill Kelly, chief operating officer, Network Rail Wales and Borders and Bethan Jelfs, customer services director, Arriva Trains Wales said: “An updated weather forecast has predicted even more snowfall in Wales and Borders than reported earlier today. We assure passengers that our teams have been working tirelessly to prepare for the challenging weather conditions ahead.

“However, passengers across the network may experience short notice cancellations or delays, so we advising people to travel only if absolutely necessary and to check their journey via www.arrivatrains.wales/check where they will be able to view updated timetables as soon as they are available.

“There are also ongoing safety checks of track and trains in North and West Wales and the Marches which means services will be unable to operate on some routes tomorrow.

“Customers who need to travel should check before doing so and allow extra time for their journey. We will also be making it as easy as possible for our customers to claim compensation if their journey has been affected by these issues. Passengers can submit compensation claims via www.arrivatrains.wales/claim.”
