Malpas and Oswestry Chess Club had a good week last week, with both the first and second teams winning.

Last Tuesday, the first team beat Colwyn Bay 1 away. First to finish was board five where Steve Rush who won his last first team match, followed by wins on boards two and four by Richard Bryant and David Bennion. Charles Lowick Higgie offered a draw on board one, while on board four Peter Lovatt lost.

On Thursday, the second team won 3-1 at home in Oswestry against Holywell Knights. Dimitar Kirachen had a very quick win on board four in only 16 moves. Steve Rush, playing his last second game agreed a draw on one, Graham Ives drew on two, while Dominic Bareford won on three.

Charles, Richard and Dominic were in action again over the weekend playing for Shropshire in the Third Division North of the National League in Bolton.

On Saturday, Charles drew on board five and Richard won on board six or Shropshire 1, helping them to a 3-3 win over Bradford DCA Knights B, while Dominic drew on board four for Shropshire 2. On Sunday, Charles lost on board three and Richard won on board six, as Shropshire 1 beat Jorvik 4-2. Dominic won on four for Shropshire 2.
