WHITCHURCH Alport go into this weekend’s away game against St Helens Town looking to begin another unbeaten run, after suffering a rare defeat at Chadderton on Saturday.

Alport saw their lead at the top reduced to four points following the 3-0 setback in Lancashire after Litherland Remyca won the Merseyside derby at City of Liverpool.

But this is no time to press the panic button, with the club’s management eager to protect their players with just 13 league games remaining.

The last time Alport failed to score on their travels came in a 3-0 reverse at Holker which was also the last time the team had been beaten away from home – FIVE months ago! The club are expecting to bolster their squad over the next week or so as they look to freshen things up with some players leg weary as a result of a demanding programme on some very heavy pitches.

Co-boss Carl Everall watched on from the sidelines as he continues to recover from a rib injury which is likely to keep him out of the side for a number of weeks at a crucial stage of the season.

“We have to remain positive despite the setback,” said Everall. “Up until 70 minutes we were very much still in the game and creating chances.

“There were too many players off their normal standard but we have to expect that from time to time at this level."
