WHITCHURCH Alport went into last night’s crunch league clash at home to Widnes buoyed by two fantastic results in the space of five days, writes Martin Wild.

A brilliant performance in midweek earned the Reds a remarkable 3-2 win at City of Liverpool who had won all their home games before Alport’s visit, and then on Saturday, the Yockings Park side blew away Chadderton with three goals in 20 first-half minutes, sweeping aside the Lancashire team’s challenge.

However, Alport crasheed to a heay defeat last night, losing 5-2 at Yockings Park, with Ryan Thomas and Dan Tinsley scoring.

The defeat sees Alport drop to third spot.

With more than a quarter of the league campaign already completed, the management team at the club must be secretly delighted with the form their side have shown in the opening 13 matches.

The transformation from last season to this has been the starkest imaginable, and even if Messrs Goddard and Everall might not thank me much for saying it, there will be plenty of sides in the Hallmark Security First Division taking Whitchurch a lot more seriously than they did around six months ago.

September was an outstanding month with 13 points gained from 15 available. But despite the great run of form the club are in at the moment, co-manager Luke Goddard has urged his side to remain focused ahead of an equally hectic October schedule.

He said: “We are delighted with how we’ve come out of September with the tally we’ve amassed, and Saturday kick-started October with another excellent three points.

“Hopefully, that sets the standard to push further forward and build on the momentum we’ve gained over the past nine games with seven wins and a draw.

“I was eager for us to reward our supporters with a performance and a positive result at home, because the last two games we’ve gone away disappointed knowing we’ve not been quite at the races.

“So we set out to press early with a good tempo to see if we could gain that advantage, and quite simply Chadderton couldn't handle us for the opening 20 minutes.
